Humane Society of West Michigan's offsite classroom visits are designed to educate and promote a more compassionate community where animals deserve a second chance.

Our humane educator and a humane education dog will visit your school, daycare, youth organization and give a presentation on a humane education topic of your choice.

  • Monday-Friday 
  • 1 hour presentation 
  • Animal interaction time
  • A donation of $50 is required for any group not affiliated with a non profit or public school
  • Public schools/non-profits please consider making a donation from our wishlist
  • 2 week minimum notice is required

 

 

Humane Education Topics: choose a discussion topic

Always Ask (dog bite safety)- most popular topic selected

  • Discusses how to interact and live with dogs we know
  • Teaches how to approach and safely interact with new dogs
  • Teaches what to do in the event that there is a loose dog, dog in a car or a dog behind a fenced in yard

Responsibility & Respect

  • Teaches how to be a responsible and respectful pet owner
  • Teaches what it takes to own a pet and what items are needed
  • Teaches how to be respectful to all animals and to each other

Self-Control, Patience & Tolerance

  • Teaches how have to have self-control and patience with animals and each other
  • Talks about how to train animals and the importance of being patient 
  • Teaches how to be tolerant and understanding towards all animals and each other

Kindness & Empathy

  • Teaches children how to be empathetic and kind towards all animals and each other
  • Discussion on ways in which students can practice kindness and empathy everyday

Behind the Scenes Tour

Animal interactions depend on if a humane education animal is available on the day of the tour.

Humane Society of West Michigan offers classrooms and other youth groups the opportunity to come to our facility and be taken on a behind the scenes tour by a humane educator.

Students will learn about what Humane Society of West Michigan does, why shelters are important and how everyone can help impact the lives of homeless animals

 

  • Tuesday-Friday 12-5PM
  • Approximately 30-45 Minutes
  • 25 person limit 
  • A humane educator will show and discuss our adoption areas as well as our admitting areas
  • Please consider making a donation to our shelter pets
