Working Cat Program

The working cat program is a way to save the lives of cats who wouldn’t be comfortable living in traditional homes. Typically, these are cats who prefer living outside. They make GREAT mousers and thrive with outdoor access. At Humane Society of West Michigan, we believe these cats deserve a second chance at life and forever homes of their own.

What we provide

Working cats are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, tested for Felv, microchipped, and ear-tipped. Your first 2 working cats are fee-waived.

What you provide

  • A safe, permanent structure such as a barn, shed, or greenhouse

  • Daily food and water

  • An acclimation period of 3-4 weeks: This is critical for cats to feel at home in their new environment and to keep them from running away. During this period, they’ll need to be confined in a crate with their food, water, litter, and a box to hide in.
